The Well in Wellwood

Wellwood is a village in the northern part of the Gillespie Church parish. We have supported summer community activity in Wellwood for the last 5 years with ‘J in the Park’, as well as running a Scripture Union class at Wellwood Primary School for several years during term-time.

We wanted to put this work on a longer-term footing, so it was decided that we should provide a community hub within Wellwood. This we have now done, in a shop unit known as The Well.

We have leased the unit at 4, Leadside Crescent (next to the shop) for use as a drop-in centre, and with many other activities planned. The unit has been painted and decorated and is now ready to go.

This will provide an opportunity to support a wide range of community activities for different age groups and different life interests throughout the week with a focus on building community.

Our primary purposes are fivefold:

- A place ‘to be’

- A place for ‘critical conversations’

- A place from which to signpost for help

- A place to access the ‘hard to reach’

- A place to showcase community activity

We are grateful to the financial support provided by an independent charitable Trust, Fife Community Council, and Church of Scotland for providing the finance to support this initiative.
