Support for the homeless

For a number of years, Gillespie Church has worked in partnership with Frontline Fife, an organisation whose primary purpose is to prevent homelessness and to support those who are homeless back into accommodation.

Rough Sleepers initiative

We provide food and support to those living rough in and around the centre of Dunfermline.  This support is possible through monthly donations by congregational members.  In addition, at Christmas and Easter we host a food collection outside the Co-op supermarket in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre, encouraging shoppers to consider making a small contribution of food to those less fortunate than themselves.  This generates food to the value of over £4,000 per annum.

Friday drop-in centre

On a weekly basis we host a drop-in centre where rough sleepers can come along and enjoy a hot two-course meal. Other support agencies such as NHS Fife and Fife Council  employability support workers provide opportunities for support from the centre during these times.

In addition, we have provided creative art classes during the week including photography and poetry, leading to a showing of the work at the Scottish Parliament in 2010.
