We had noticed for some time that stress cracks were appearing in the wall supporting the east end gable wall by the choir gallery (1 & 2), and the stained glass windows were starting to buckle (3). Roof repairs provided the opportunity to investigate the gable end (4), and signs of decay were soon found (5).
The main beams supporting the gable end had rusted through (6, 7 & 8) and had to be replaced. The stained glass windows were removed for refurbishment, and they were replaced when this was completed.
While the major repairs were in progress we held our main Sunday services at Queen Anne High School. Evening services and other activities could still make use of the Gillespie Church Hall at the back, and of course the Gillespie Centre beside the church. The repairs were completed in December 2010.
